The Specifics

On March 8-10, the Guiding Lights Network is bringing together leaders, catalysts, and innovators to generate new solutions to foster and promote citizenship. To us, citizenship is not about where you were born or what documents you have. It’s about knowing your values, understanding the systems around us, having the skills to change them. And then passing it on.

After these 3 intense and inspirational days, we want to capture how conference participants are going to take the lessons from the weekend and pass it on in their local community. Share your ideas for how you are going to revitalize your community when you get back home. And even better, we’re offering $1,000 in grant funding to help support the top idea.

From March 8-14, share your idea here. It’s easy: just upload a photo or video and write a paragraph describing your idea.

On March 14, come back and get inspired by all the ideas that have emerged from our network. Ask a question, leave a comment, and continue the conversations that started in Seattle. Then, vote for your favorite submission. The top-voted idea will receive a $1,000 grant and the top 3 ideas will get free registration to next year’s conference.

Connect with us on twitter at @GOODmkr and follow this challenge at #GOODlights.

Submission tips:

  • Include a photo or video that represents your idea. Photos should be in JPG, PNG, or GIF format, at least 572 × 346 pixels and no larger than 10MB. To include a video, use a YouTube URL.
  • Describe what impact your project would have and how the $1000 award would enable you to implement your idea.
  • Email if you have any technical questions.

Rules & Regulations

  • Only participants of the 2012 Guiding Lights Weekend are eligible to submit an application.
  • This Challenge is open for submissions from March 8 to March 14.
  • Submitted projects must be able to be activated with $1000 and within 6 months of receiving the grant. (You can use other funding as well, but if you win the grant, you are agreeing to implement your idea within 6 months).
  • Projects will be featured on this page and public voting will be open from March 14 to March 27. Voting is open to the public— so feel free to rally your community to support your idea.
  • The submission with the most votes will receive $1000 to implement their ideas, and the top 3 submissions will receive free registration to next year’s conference.
  • Read all the rules.

I've had several people comment that they had trouble voting. It required that they sign up multiple times and they just got frustrated after the third time. How can we avoid this?

I had many complaints also! I even sent a feedback email about it, but no reply. :-(
